Fashion Is One Hell Of A Drug

JUST what exactly is a Fashioin Junkie? Is it a heroin or cocaine abusing underage, underweight and oversexualized model? Because if so... Sisley wants you to know that this is what a fashioin junkie looks like, and I doubt that any of these models are over 18.

This bold in-your-face glorification of high fashion, low weight fueled by drug consumption, FW advert depicts two models snorting a white tee (which obviously isn't fall attire ) is way beyond tongue and cheek.

Has Sisly's ad agency done one too many lines? or is this advert going on your wall because this is exactly the kind of editorial you live for?

i really don't believe this ad....talk about jumping on the bandwagon of all the hyped publicity...poor Sisley...I'm sure they thought it would boost the credibility of the chain but sadly it's going to do the opposite

I'm just glad it's not blood stained panties anymore. That was gross.

I really don't know what to say or think!

To be honest I like the ad because I like ads that make people think about them (no matter if its for good or bad reasons). You guys remember those polemic Benetton ads (from a long time ago)? Where a man with aids was photographed in his bed? Or that ad where a nun was kissing a priest? etc

Those ads were very criticized, but the truth is that they were an excellent marketing strategy, because everyone wanted to see them. In my opinion they made benetton became even more famous.

Sisley and Benetton belong to the same company, right? so... as a marketing strategy this is a great ad. Nowadays a lot of people feel attracted to rebel and polemic models and actresses, who have that kind of lifestyle (Kate Moss, Lindsay, Nicole)right?!

The ad is also be great to make people think about important things like, drug abuse, anorexia (could the models be more thin?), health, and so on!

To end my comment i want to say that this is not the editorial i live for, of course, but i think the publicist is a genious!

One more thing! Great post :) like I've said, I like things that make me think about them :)

I sort of like the ad, it's edgy in a really overplayed way, but I think I'd like it more if the models actually look fabulous instead of zombies, but I guess that would sort of ruin the whole point
fantastic post! It made me actually think( which is rare :P)

oh dear. that's such an italian ad.

what would fashion recovery be then?
a membership to debtor's anonymous?
or
would you have to wear "seven" jeans? (those are so 2005)

Overkill overkill overkill. Yeah, you look at the ad and think "models do coke" but that's about it. Is it going to change? Nope. So why even bother?

It just might go up on my wall because it is so in your face and out there, I guess. But if it does, something will be covering up the scary face of the one in purple. I refuse to wake up and go to sleep with that staring at me...

Jennine, why "an Italian ad"? Believe me, this is shocking in Italy (where I live) as it can be in any country.

It does remind me of the provocative Benneton ads of my youth. I think it's succeeded in at least getting Sisley a LOT more attention than they've been getting lately...I'm ambivalent about the content though; part of me likes anything edgy and sure to provoke (a la Helmut Newton), but this doesn't rise to that level of artistry.

bad. because this is what influences teens and young women everywhere, and drugs and fashion are completely two different things. As a fashion designer, i feel that this ad completely ruins the beauty of fashion and the fashion business. Ya models get into some risky business, but fashion has nothing to do with it. This ad, influences people everywhere who WANT to be skinny and who WANT to fit into the trends of fashion. I weigh 100 pounds, and i am speaking for everyone. Not everyone is perfect like models, but as models, they are the main influence in an american society. What does this influence for you?
